Join me at the Nelson Public Library, 602 Stanley St., Saturday, July 19, at 7 pm. I’ll be doing the hometown launch for my new poetry collection Out of the Ordinary.

And, two days before, Thursday, July 17 at 7 pm, I’ll be launching the new book of poems at the Nakusp Public Library, 92 – 6th Ave. NW. Both events are free by donation.

Celebrate the extraordinary everyday - Reading poster 2025

Originally I had arranged to read together with my long-time friend and fellow poet Kate Braid, who planned to launch her new book of prose ruminations from Caitlin Press about aging, weight training, and Buddhism among other subjects, The Erotics of Cutting Grass: Reflections on a Well-Loved Life. Kate, who lives on Pender Island, was a pioneer journeyed carpenter in BC, and active in the Women in Trades movement. Unfortunately, a health issue has led her to cancel her Kootenay readings. But the libraries have graciously okayed me appearing solo.

Kate Braid’s new prose collection, published by Caitlin Press, explores her life as an older person. The title refers to her enjoyment of using a riding mower on a Pender Island property owned by her and her husband, John Steeves. Topics range from weight-training to Buddhism to encounters with French culture and cuisine to fears of singing solo.

Kate won the 2015 Vancouver Mayor’s Arts Award. I met her when we were both members of a Vancouver work writers’ circle in the 1980s. Read more about Kate Braid and her writing at KateBraid.com.
