I’ve been asked by the Slocan Lake Arts Council to convene a workshop on Writing About Community, on Sat. Aug. 15 and Sun. Aug. 16 at the Slocan Lake Arts Centre, 421 Lake Ave. (Highway 6 and 4th St.), Silverton BC.

The workshop will be limited to 6 people, due to pandemic health guidelines, as social distancing will be observed. Our focus will be on the people around us, in fiction, memoir, family history, or poems. The workshop will run from 9 am to 12 noon each day.

Half the workshop time will be spent considering participants’ own writing. So registrants are asked to send five to ten pages of material they’d like considered by the workshop to me at appledor@netidea.com by Aug. 7, so participants’ writing can be circulated to workshop members to read and think about before the event itself. Writing exercises, and consideration of examples of other authors’ writing, will take up the other half of our time together.

To reserve your spot in this workshop, send $60. via:
– etransfer, to slocanlakeartscouncil@gmail.com, with the password “Writing”,
– direct transfer, through Kootenay Savings Credit Union, or
– cheque, mailed to Slocan Lake Arts Centre, PO Box 123, Silverton BC Canada V0G 2B0

During the event, I’ll be giving a reading at the Slocan Lake Arts Centre at 7:30 pm Sat. Aug. 15. Admission is free, but limited to 30 people due to pandemic guidelines.
